Nigeria Increases Passport Fees Amid Economic Strain

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a significant increase in the cost of obtaining a passport, effective September 1. The price hike, which only applies to applications submitted within Nigeria, is the second such increase in a year.

According to a statement from the NIS, the new fees are now set at N100,000 for a 32-page passport with five-year validity and N200,000 for a 64-page passport with 10-year validity. This latest adjustment follows a similar review in August 2024, when the prices were raised to N50,000 and N100,000 respectively.

The NIS stated that the review is aimed at maintaining the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring its accessibility. Fees for Nigerians applying from abroad, however, remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page passport and $230 for the 64-page version. The decision comes amidst rising living costs and economic challenges in the country.
