Gombe, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the training of its officials in Gombe State as part of preparations for a nationwide in-person voter registration exercise. The initiative is a critical step towards ensuring a credible and seamless Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process.
The training session, which took place at the Hajiya Amina Inuwa Gombe Women Development Centre, brought together Registration Area Officers (RAOs), Electoral Officers, and other key staff from the state’s 11 local government area offices.
In his opening remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Gombe State, Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, emphasized the importance of a credible voter registration process as the foundation for free and fair elections. He urged the participants to maintain the highest ethical standards and warned that any delegation of duties to unauthorized persons would be met with strict sanctions.
Dr. Idris stated that the training was designed to refresh the knowledge of the RAOs and familiarize them with updated registration software, noting that the 2025/26 CVR exercise would not be “business as usual.” He assured them that all due entitlements would be paid in full and announced that he would personally monitor the exercise to ensure effective supervision.
The training follows a preparatory briefing where the REC approved the release of public address systems to local government offices to assist with voter education and directed that the INEC Voter Enlightenment Device (IVED) be properly configured for the exercise.
