NIGERIA – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has graduated a new cohort of combat-ready Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operators, aiming to enhance its battlespace dominance through improved precision and real-time intelligence gathering. The completion of Operational Conversion Training Course 3/2024 on July 24, 2025, in Kaduna, signifies the NAF’s ongoing commitment to bolstering Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations for counterinsurgency and internal security efforts nationwide.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, represented by Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, described the graduation as a “strategic milestone” in the fight against insurgency and other asymmetric threats facing Nigeria. “This is not just a ceremony; it is a reaffirmation of our resolve to dominate the battlespace through precision ISR and coordinated joint operations,” the CAS stated, adding that these new operators are “key players in our mission to secure Nigeria from the skies.”
Air Marshal Abubakar emphasised that the graduation aligns with his vision of developing a highly skilled, agile, and mission-ready force. He commended the graduates for their resilience during the rigorous training and urged them to maintain professionalism and focus. He also encouraged them to embrace innovation and continuous learning, noting that UAV warfare is rapidly evolving and requires collaboration with engineers, intelligence analysts, and aircrew.
The NAF’s investment in UAV capabilities, as highlighted by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, reflects a forward-leaning approach to battlefield dominance through technology and skill in defence of the nation.
