Northwest Nigerian Governors Mourn Buhari, Declare Public Holiday


The Northwest Governors Forum extended heartfelt condolences to current President Bola Tinubu, Buhari’s immediate family, the government and people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians mourning “this irreplaceable loss.” They remembered the former president as a “father, our leader, and the pride of the Northwest region,” noting he “lived a life of service, integrity, and sacrifice for the betterment of Nigeria.”

In a statement issued on Monday, the forum unanimously agreed to declare Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday across all Northwest states.

They also announced that the remains of the former president are expected to arrive in Katsina on Tuesday at approximately 12:00 PM (11:00 GMT), with the burial ceremony scheduled for 2:00 PM (13:00 GMT). The governors urged all Nigerians to join in prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
