Nigerian President Condemns Plateau State Killings

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has denounced the recent killing of travellers in Plateau State, describing the attack as “unacceptable and barbaric”.

The incident involved a group of wedding guests, including the father and brother of the groom, who were travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Jos in Plateau State. Local reports indicate that 12 people were killed and others injured in the attack.

In a statement released on Sunday, President Tinubu directed security agencies to swiftly apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice. He called for calm and assured that the “dastardly act” would not go unpunished.

The president urged the Plateau State government to work with security forces to investigate the incident thoroughly and prevent future occurrences. He emphasized that the “freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable” and that acts of violence curtailing this freedom would not be tolerated.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the people and government of Kaduna State.

The attack occurred against a backdrop of ongoing security challenges in parts of Nigeria, including inter-communal tensions and banditry.
