Liverpool Agree Club-Record £116m Deal for Florian Wirtz

Liverpool, UK – Premier League champions Liverpool have reportedly agreed a club-record deal worth up to £116 million to sign Germany attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The fee for the 22-year-old is said to include a guaranteed £100 million, with an additional £16 million in performance-related add-ons. Should these bonus payments be met, contingent on Liverpool achieving sustained success, the deal would also become a new British transfer record. The current British record for an initial fee remains Chelsea’s £107 million signing of Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez in 2023.

This acquisition would significantly surpass Liverpool’s previous record transfers, which include the £64 million (potentially rising to £85m) paid for Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica and the £75 million for centre-back Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in 2018.

Manchester City had reportedly shown interest in Wirtz but cooled their pursuit due to the significant costs involved, while German giants Bayern Munich were also linked with the promising midfielder.

Wirtz is understood to have made his preference for a move to Anfield clear. Liverpool’s negotiated fee is reportedly below Bayer Leverkusen’s initial valuation, which was said to be around £126 million.
