Sokoto, Nigeria – At least six people are feared dead following an explosion on Sunday in Gwabro village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Police suspect an improvised explosive device (IED) was responsible for the blast.
Confirming the incident and the casualty toll, Sokoto State police command spokesman Ahmad Rufai declined to comment on who might be behind the attack.
Eyewitnesses, including Garzali Raka, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, stated that the victims have been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Local sources have alleged that the explosion may have been orchestrated by members of the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group, which is reportedly active in Tangaza and the neighbouring Gudu Local Government Area.
“The Lakurawa terrorists are mostly foreigners and have continued to disturb the peace in several villages across both councils,” one resident claimed.
The incident has intensified fears in the affected communities, prompting residents to appeal to federal and state authorities for urgent intervention to address the worsening security situation and restore peace to the region.
