Nigerian Security Force Foils Robbery in Ogun State

Abeokuta, Nigeria – The Amotekun (Security Network) Corps in Nigeria’s Ogun State successfully thwarted a robbery attempt on Saturday, following a rapid response to a distress call from Akinale town in the Ewekoro area.

During the incident, which occurred around 1:20 am on Saturday, a 28-year-old man identified as Opeyemi Olusanya was shot in the upper part of his left leg.

According to a statement issued by Amotekun Corps Deputy Commander Tajudeen Bakare, a team from the Ewekoro Command swiftly responded to the call and arrived at the scene. Upon the operatives’ arrival, the assailants were attempting to flee in a wine-coloured Kia Cerato vehicle, believed to belong to one Ariwoola Wasiu.

The statement noted that the robbers, upon seeing the Amotekun operatives, abandoned their vehicle and fled into a nearby bush. They escaped with valuables, including eight mobile phones, two laptops, jewellery, and 54,000 naira (approximately $36 USD) in cash.

The abandoned vehicle has since been handed over to the Itori Division of the Nigeria Police, who are collaborating with Amotekun to conduct a thorough investigation into the robbery and the escape of the perpetrators.

The gunshot victim, Mr. Olusanya, was promptly transported to a private hospital in Obada-Oko for medical attention.

Local residents have commended the Amotekun Corps for their swift and proactive response, highlighting it as evidence of their commitment to protecting citizens.
