Socialite E-Money Urges Public to Stop Spraying Naira at Parties, Citing Law

Nigerian businessman and socialite Emeka Okonkwo, widely known as E-Money, has issued a public appeal to Nigerians to refrain from spraying the Naira or any other currency at social gatherings, warning that such actions are illegal.

In a message posted on his Instagram account on Thursday, E-Money highlighted the directive from Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the practice of throwing or spraying money during celebrations, stating that these acts constitute currency abuse.

“Let’s celebrate responsibly and avoid fines. Respect our currency!” he urged.

E-Money advised that if money must be given at a party, it should be placed in a basket, bowl, or container in front of the recipient, cautioning against dropping any currency on the floor. He also warned that ignorance of the law would not be accepted as an excuse.

The message comes shortly after reports that E-Money was arrested and questioned by the EFCC over alleged abuse of both the Nigerian Naira and the United States Dollar at public events.

The EFCC has consistently stated that the spraying or mutilation of currency is a criminal offense under Nigerian law and has intensified enforcement efforts in recent months, targeting prominent individuals seen mishandling cash at social functions. E-Money’s public statement appears to be a direct response to these warnings and his own recent experience with the anti-graft agency.
