Kogi Governor Vows ‘No Hunger’ as Food Aid Launched

Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has pledged that “no Kogi citizen should go to bed hungry” under his administration, as he launched a major food distribution programme.

Speaking at the official rollout of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Outreach Programme in Lokoja on Monday, Mr Ododo emphasised his government’s commitment to food security.

He said Kogi State would not only support federal government initiatives but also expand its own quarterly food distribution to reach more vulnerable households.

The governor described the RHI programme, spearheaded by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as a “timely and compassionate” intervention, aligning with his own vision to alleviate economic hardship.

In a statement signed by Ismaila Isah, the Governor’s Media Adviser, Mr. Ododo also highlighted his administration’s focus on women and youth empowerment, noting that Kogi had exceeded the 35% affirmative action target for women in government positions.

Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, representing Mrs Tinubu, urged recipients to use the food aid responsibly and warned against reselling the supplies.

“This initiative is not just about food; it is about restoring dignity, giving hope, and providing relief to the most vulnerable among us,” she said.

She added that the RHI programme, which has already been implemented in several states, included grants for people with disabilities, climate change awareness programmes for students, and the distribution of sanitary products to girls in rural areas.

Kogi State’s First Lady, Safinat Ododo, praised Mrs Tinubu’s efforts to ease hardship and pledged to work with communities to address their needs.

The RHI Food Outreach Programme aims to provide food assistance to vulnerable groups across Nigeria.
