The wife of the Kogi State Governor, Sefinat Ododo, has praised the progress made in women’s rights advocacy, while calling for more opportunities for women.
Speaking on International Women’s Day, Mrs Ododo acknowledged the “strength, resilience, and determination” of women in challenging gender stereotypes.
She said the theme of this year’s celebration, “Accelerate Action”, highlighted the need for continued efforts to ensure equal opportunities for women and girls.
Mrs Ododo reaffirmed her commitment to advancing women’s rights in Kogi State through initiatives promoting education, economic inclusion, and social justice. She also pledged to strengthen advocacy against gender-based violence.
She called for greater support for women across all areas of life, enabling them to succeed without “suppression, intimidation, and violence”.
“Let us continue to lift each other up, to support each other’s dreams, and to demand a world that values and respects the contributions of women and girls,” she said.
Mrs Ododo emphasised the need for concrete action beyond “words from government at all levels and other stakeholders”.
She also praised Kogi women who are “making a difference in the state while inspiring younger generations”.
