The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) has conferred the prestigious Fellow of Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (FNMGS) on Samuel Olusunle, Research Director at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). This recognition comes as the NMGS celebrates its 64th year of existence. The society, established in 1961, aims to advance the practice of mining, earth sciences, and metallurgy in Nigeria. Mr. Olusunle was honoured alongside 42 other members at the NMGS’s 60th Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE) in Abuja. The event, held from February 16 to 19, 2025, featured an Awards Night where the prestigious fellow category was conferred on the awardees. The FNMGS is the highest membership category attainable in the society, and Mr. Olusunle’s conferment adds a new distinction to his name. He expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the alignment between NASENI’s mandate and NMGS’s core concerns. Mr. Olusunle’s achievements are a testament to his contributions to the growth and development of the mining and geosciences profession in Nigeria. As Research Director at NASENI, he has played a crucial role in advancing the agency’s objectives, including the development of solid minerals exploitation and the CNG project. The NMGS’s recognition of Mr. Olusunle’s achievements underscores the significance of collaboration between professional bodies and government agencies in driving socio-economic development in Nigeria.
