Nigerian Lawmaker Adewunmi Onanuga Dies After Brief Illness

Adewunmi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has passed away after a brief illness. Born on December 2, 1965, Onanuga was a dedicated public servant, visionary leader, and passionate advocate for her constituents.

First elected to the House in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress, Onanuga represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State. During her tenure, she chaired the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, championing policies to empower women and advance social welfare.

Onanuga’s demise was announced by House Spokesman Akin Rotimi on Wednesday evening, sparking an outpouring of tributes to her legacy.
