A staff member of the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) has been dismissed after being found guilty of extorting N100,000 from a passenger at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The incident occurred in December when a traveller, Oyewale Oyesiji, alleged that he was extorted by airport workers on his way to South Africa. An investigative panel set up by SAHCO found the staff member guilty of the allegation, leading to his dismissal.
A source within the company confirmed that the staff member had been sacked, stating that SAHCO “would not tolerate any unprofessional conduct from its staff, irrespective of position.”
The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Vanessa Uansohia, refused to comment on the specific incident but emphasized that SAHCO has a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and misconduct. She assured stakeholders and clients of the company’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
