President Tinubu Hails Reopening of Warri Refinery as “Remarkable Achievement”

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for reopening the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, describing it as a remarkable achievement in 2024 that has strengthened Nigerians’ hope in his administration.

The Warri Refinery resumed operations weeks after NNPCL restarted 60,000 barrels per day at the Port Harcourt Refinery in November. This development marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to revamp the country’s refining sector.

President Tinubu expressed his administration’s determination to increase local refining capacity and make Nigeria a hub for downstream industrial activities in Africa. He noted that the 125,000 barrels-per-day Warri Refinery is now operating at 60% capacity, putting his administration’s energy efficiency and security plan on track.

The president commended Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of NNPCL, for his leadership in restoring Nigeria’s glory as a major oil-producing country. He urged NNPCL to accelerate repair work on the Kaduna Refinery and the second refinery in Port Harcourt to consolidate Nigeria’s position as a global energy provider.

The reopened Warri Refinery will focus on producing critical products, including Straight Run Kerosene, Automotive Gas Oil, and heavy and light Naphtha.
