Nigeria’s Port Harcourt Refinery Denies Shutdown Reports

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has dismissed reports that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery, which resumed operations two months ago, has been shut down.

According to a statement by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, the refinery is fully operational, with preparations underway for the day’s loading operation.

The statement clarifies that former Group Managing Directors of NNPC verified the refinery’s operational status a few days ago.

The NNPC Ltd urges the public to disregard the shutdown reports, describing them as baseless and aimed at creating artificial scarcity and exploiting Nigerians.

This development comes after the refinery’s rehabilitation, which was part of the Nigerian government’s broader program to rehabilitate and optimize the country’s refining capacity.

The Port Harcourt Refinery is Nigeria’s first refinery, operational since 1965 and has the capacity to produce various petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel and kerosene.
