Nigeria Union of Journalists Gets First Female FCT Chairperson

In a historic milestone, Ms. Grace Ike has been elected as the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, 43 years after its establishment. Miss Ike, a seasoned journalist from Advocate Broadcasting Network (ADBN), was sworn in on Wednesday alongside four other executive members.

The newly elected officials include Yahaya Ndambabo of Voice of Nigeria (VON) as Vice Chairman, Jide Oyekunle of Independent Newspaper as Secretary, and Sandra Udeike of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) as Treasurer. The election was conducted under tight security with a massive turnout of journalists from various media organizations and chapels operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In her inauguration speech, Ike emphasized her commitment to repositioning the NUJ FCT Council through innovative projects that would directly impact the welfare of members. She pledged to work collaboratively with the newly elected NUJ National President, Yahya Alhassan, and other members of the National Executive Council.

Ike’s vision for the council includes promoting unity, progress, and excellence, as well as empowering female journalists. She expressed her gratitude to the women of the council who supported her throughout her journey.
