Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, Takes Charge of Courtroom Security Amidst Chaos

In an unexpected turn of events, former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, took charge of maintaining order in the courtroom after Justice Maryann Anenih abruptly walked out due to chaos. Bello, who was present for his arraignment on 16-count charges related to alleged N110 billion fraud, stood up and directed his supporters to vacate the courtroom.

The former governor’s actions helped to ease tensions, and his followers complied with his instructions without resistance. To ensure the courtroom remained orderly, Bello positioned himself at the entrance, ensuring that none of his supporters disobeyed the court’s instructions.

Bello’s arraignment is connected to the 19 charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in April 2024, alleging that he and his nephews laundered over N80 billion. The EFCC had declared Bello wanted before his eventual arraignment. Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, leads the Federal Government’s legal team, while Joseph Dauda, SAN, represents Bello.
