Nigeria’s Safety Investigation Bureau Locates Crashed Helicopter Wreckage in Atlantic Ocean

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has confirmed the discovery of the wreckage of the helicopter that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean last Thursday, while transporting Nigerian National Petroleum Limited workers from Port Harcourt. The helicopter, a Sikorsky SK76 with registration 5N BQG, was carrying eight passengers and crew.

Recovery Efforts

The NSIB has commenced preparations for the helicopter’s recovery to support further investigation. Director General Captain Alex Badeh praised the search team and partners, saying, “Locating the wreckage is a critical milestone… We are determined to conduct a thorough investigation to provide clarity and closure to the families of those affected.”

The NSIB’s findings will shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident, providing much-needed answers for the families of the victims.
