Niger Delta Militants Threaten to Bomb Oil Installations Over Rivers State Dispute

A Niger Delta militia group, the Niger Delta Development Force, has issued a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, threatening to shut down oil installations in the region unless he intervenes in the ongoing dispute between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.

The group’s spokesman, Justin Alabraba, expressed outrage over Wike’s alleged plan to use his federal influence to secure a court ruling that would stop local government allocations to Rivers State. The militia vowed to take swift action if such a judgment is rendered, targeting major oil installations in the Niger Delta.

“We will act immediately… We will shut down major oil installations in the Niger Delta. If President Bola Tinubu allows Wike to disrupt governance in the local governments of Rivers State, we will also disrupt governance at all levels,” the statement read.

The group accused Wike of repeatedly insulting and intimidating Governor Fubara, leveraging his federal resources. They declared that further harassment of Mr. Fubara would result in destructive actions against oil infrastructure, emphasizing that Rivers State is not under Wike’s control.

“This is not a threat; it is a promise. Enough is enough. Wike and Tinubu cannot take us for granted any longer,” the group warned.

The threat signals a potential escalation in the ongoing political struggle within Rivers State, highlighting the fragile dynamics between local and federal authorities in Nigeria.
