Nigeria’s Interior Ministry Panel Clears Bobrisky of Prison Favouritism Allegations

A probe by Nigeria’s Interior Ministry has found no evidence that celebrity crossdresser Bobrisky served his six-month prison sentence anywhere but in official custody, contrary to allegations made by social critic VeryDarkMan. Bobrisky was sentenced to prison in April for abusing the naira and was released in August.

The investigative panel discovered that Bobrisky was transferred between three different custodial centres during his imprisonment, including Kuje, Kirikiri-Apapa, and Maximum Security Custodial Centre. While incarcerated, Bobrisky enjoyed privileges such as:

  • Special Accommodations: Furnished single cells and access to a humidifier
  • Flexible Visitation: Frequent visits from family and friends
  • Personal Services: Designated inmates to run errands
  • Access to Electronics: Fridge, television, and possible phone access

However, the panel noted that Bobrisky’s transfer to a maximum-security facility as a first offender violated sections of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act. The panel recommends further investigation into potential corruption and setting clear guidelines to prevent discriminatory treatment of inmates based on socio-economic status.

Bobrisky’s case has sparked controversy, with some questioning the fairness of his treatment. The investigation’s findings aim to address these concerns and ensure transparency in Nigeria’s correctional system.
