The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched a 3-day training program for electoral security personnel ahead of the Ondo State Governorship Election, slated for November 16.
The training, organized by The Electoral Institute (TEI), aims to enhance professionalism and ensure a secure electoral environment.”Security agencies must synergize and share intelligence to provide a robust security architecture for the forthcoming election,” said Oluwatoyin Babalola, Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State who represented the Chair of the board of the Electoral Institute.
Commissioner of Police Abayomi Oladipo emphasized the importance of the ICCES framework in securing the electoral environment.
Participants include personnel from the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, NDLEA, Nigeria Prisons Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, DSS, FRSC, and the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The Director-General of the Electoral Institute, Dr. Sa’ad Idris, stressed the collective responsibility to conduct free, fair, and credible elections. The training focuses on mitigating vote-buying, enhancing professionalism, and identifying security agencies’ core roles.
As Ondo State prepares for the governorship poll, INEC is keen to reaffirm its commitment to credible elections.
