Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to defeating banditry and restoring peace in the North-West.
During his visit to Sokoto State on Friday, Mr. Matawalle oversaw the handover of 10 operational vehicles, including eight Buffalo trucks and two Toyota Hilux, donated by the Sokoto State Government. He praised the state’s continued support, saying, “The security of our nation demands a collective effort. These vehicles will greatly improve our forces’ operational capacity.”
The minister also received an operational briefing from the Air Component of Joint Operation Hadarin Daji, lauding the precision and effectiveness of recent air and ground operations against bandit leaders. “Your achievements are a testament to your professionalism and dedication,” he remarked.
Mr. Matawalle assured the military of the Federal Government’s unwavering support, vowing not to rest until peace is fully restored in the North-West.
This development comes as the Nigerian military intensifies its crackdown on oil theft, arresting 18 individuals involved in the theft of crude oil valued at N793.2 million. Troops have also seized 789,200 litres of stolen crude oil and arrested 35 oil thieves. Additionally, the Nigerian Army has destroyed 37 illegal refining sites and seized 221,000 litres of crude oil in the Niger Delta.
