Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Orders Probe into Bribery Allegations in Correctional Service

A thorough investigation has been launched into allegations of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service, following a directive from Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Although no specific case was mentioned, the move comes after a video surfaced featuring Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, claiming special treatment during his six-month sentence.

Bobrisky alleged that his godfather, in collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his sentence in a private apartment instead of prison. He claimed to have paid N2 million to secure this arrangement.

Investigation Details

The Minister condemned the alleged behaviour, emphasizing zero tolerance for indiscipline, unprofessionalism, or corruption within the paramilitary services. A special investigative team, headed by Permanent Secretary Magdalene Ajani, will conduct a rigorous, transparent, and impartial probe.

“The ministry will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability,” Tunji-Ojo stated. “We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring those found culpable face the full wrath of the law.”

The investigation’s findings will be closely watched, as Nigeria continues to grapple with corruption issues within its institutions.
