EFCC Controversy Deepens: Yahaya Bello’s Visit Sparks Confusion

Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, Nigeria, is embroiled in a controversy surrounding his visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters. Bello’s team claims he voluntarily visited the EFCC office, following consultations with his legal team and associates .

However, the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, denies Bello was in their custody, stating he remains wanted.

In a surprising twist, Bello’s team released another statement, asserting that he was indeed at the EFCC office, accompanied by his successor, Governor Ahmed Ododo. According to Ohiare Michael, Director of Bello’s media office, the EFCC did not interrogate Bello and instead told him he could leave.

This development raises questions about the intentions behind Bello’s visit and the EFCC’s response.

The EFCC is prosecuting Bello alongside his nephew, Ali Bello, and two others on 19-count charges of money laundering to the tune of N80.2 billion. Bello’s counsel has prayed for the revocation of the arrest warrant, while the prosecution argues that Bello must be physically present in court for his arraignment
