A devastating flood in Maiduguri, Borno State, has led to the disappearance of 281 inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that seven inmates have been recaptured and returned to custody.
“Floods have severely damaged the correctional facility and staff quarters,” NCS spokesman Umar Abubakar said. “During evacuation, 281 inmates went missing. We are working with security agencies to track them down.”
