ABUJA, Nigeria — A political advocacy group, the Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV), has welcomed the inclusion of 29 Nigerian institutions in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
In a statement issued by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group highlighted that Nigeria achieved the highest representation of any country in Sub-Saharan Africa in the latest global rankings.
TMV noted that the number of ranked Nigerian institutions rose from 24 in the previous edition to 29, with five universities making their debut on the global list. Federal institutions accounted for five of the seven Nigerian universities placed within the top 1,200 globally. The group attributed the improved global visibility and performance to ongoing education sector reforms under President Bola Tinubu, including the Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative and the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritize research excellence, innovation, and international competitiveness.TMV also commended the Federal Government for maintaining industrial stability across university campuses through prompt payment of salaries and allowances, noting that the absence of strikes has contributed significantly to sustained academic progress.
