Rising Revenue Reflects President Tinubu’s Fiscal Competence, Says TSG

ABUJA, Nigeria — A political advocacy group, the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), has attributed Nigeria’s surge in national revenue to the fiscal management policies of President Bola Tinubu, pointing to over ₦21.6 trillion generated in the first half of 2026.In a statement issued in Abuja, TSG Director-General Umar Tanko Yakasai described the half-year haul as evidence of successful structural reforms aimed at expanding the national revenue base.

Yakasai noted that tax revenue alone climbed to ₦16.80 trillion in the first five months of 2026—up from ₦10.60 trillion recorded during the same period in 2025—representing a year-on-year growth of ₦6.2 trillion. The group highlighted key institutional changes driving the increase, notably the transition of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) into the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) under the Nigeria Revenue Service Act, 2025. The rebranded agency now unifies tax and non-tax collection responsibilities previously spread across multiple government entities.”This transition speaks to the fact that President Bola Tinubu is seriously focused, deliberate, and intentional about expanding the revenue basket, without which much infrastructure development cannot take place,” the statement said. The group also noted that higher federation revenues have significantly boosted statutory monthly disbursements managed by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to states and local governments.

In June 2026 alone, gross statutory revenue grew by ₦1.05 trillion compared to the previous month. TSG urged sub-national governments to utilize their increased allocations to address poverty and improve citizen welfare, aligning with recommendations from international financial institutions to close the poverty gap.
