The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Osun State until Friday, 31 July 2026, to ensure no eligible voter is disenfranchised ahead of the 15 August governorship election.
INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan announced the decision during a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Wednesday, revealing that 322,822 newly registered voters—representing roughly 60 per cent—had collected their cards as of Tuesday.
“In the interest of inclusivity, the commission decided to extend the collection of the PVC till Friday 31st July 2026 to enable those who have been unable to collect their PVCs to do so,” Amupitan stated.
Cleaned voter register and security measures
Professor Amupitan confirmed that, following automated data cleanups to remove duplicate and invalid entries, the official voter register now lists 2,339,233 eligible citizens across 3,763 polling units in 30 local government areas.
To protect collection points during the extension window, INEC is coordinating with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to deploy enhanced security patrols around centers nationwide.
A total of 14 political parties and their candidates have been cleared to contest the governorship poll.
