INEC Secretary honoured in US for sustainable governance

LITTLE ROCK — Global leaders have been warned that “complacency is not an option” in the fight against climate change, at the opening of a major sustainability summit in the United States.

Princess Moradeun Ogunlana, founder of the Global Sustainability Honours Gala, told delegates at the opening ceremony in Little Rock, Arkansas, that environmental preservation is an immediate collective obligation rather than a distant aspiration.

“Tonight, we celebrate not only achievements but also the shared commitment to a greener, more sustainable future,” Princess Ogunlana told the audience of academics, business leaders, and civil society representatives at the Little Rock Marriott.

The 2026 event aimed to highlight both grassroots and institutional steps required to meet global climate targets.

Accountability honoured:

Among the key figures recognized for their contribution to international frameworks was Mrs Rose Oriaran-Anthony, who received an honour for her leadership in sustainable governance and institutional accountability.

Mrs Oriaran-Anthony—widely recognized for her senior public service roles, including her work as Secretary to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—was commended for building strict compliance structures to ensure environmental and institutional policies are effectively executed.

Organisers noted that her frameworks serve as a model for transparency and impactful administration in public services facing modern climate demands.

Urgent collaboration

The atmosphere at the Arkansas summit combined recognition of recent policy progress with strict warnings about the timeline for global environmental action.

Urging immediate collaboration across international borders and competing industries, Princess Ogunlana added: “We cannot afford complacency.”

The conference concluded with an appeal to delegates to integrate the summit’s policy frameworks into everyday corporate and public planning, ensuring sustainability remains at the heart of future economic development.
