NIMC Launches WhatsApp, Live Chat Support to Tackle NIN Delays

ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s identity management body has launched two new digital support channels in a bid to reduce long queues and provide real-time assistance for National Identification Number (NIN) enquiries.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) announced on Monday that citizens can now seek help via a WhatsApp support line and a Live Chat feature on its official website. The move is part of a broader digital overhaul led by the Director-General, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, aimed at making the agency more “citizen-centered.”

How to Get Support

Nigerians and legal residents can now bypass physical visits to enrolment centres by using the following official channels:

  • WhatsApp Support: +234 701 566 6971
  • Live Chat: Available via the official website at www.nimc.gov.ng

The Commission stated that these platforms are designed to provide “prompt responses” and “real-time guidance” from any location, significantly reducing the need for physical presence at NIMC offices.

Digital Reform Agenda

The initiative is being framed as a key component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, which prioritises public sector efficiency through technology.

Under Engr. Coker-Odusote, the NIMC has been under pressure to clear backlogs and simplify the often-strenuous process of NIN registration and data correction. The agency believes these digital tools will help build public trust and streamline operational efficiency.

A Warning on Fraud

In a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the NIMC urged the public to remain vigilant.

“Citizens should engage only through official communication channels to avoid misinformation and fraudulent activities,” the statement read. The agency warned that using unverified third-party services for NIN-related matters remains a significant security risk for personal data.

The rollout follows several other tech-driven reforms at the commission, including the recent introduction of a self-service mobile app for data modifications.
