Nigeria’s Kogi State to commission 80 modernised health centres

The Governor of Nigeria’s Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, is set to commission 80 revitalized Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state, marking the first phase of a major modernisation project launched in April 2024.

The state-wide exercise aims to transform primary healthcare facilities into functional and modern centres, ensuring better service delivery at the grassroots level. Governor Ododo will officially launch the commissioning at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Old Market, Lokoja, on Friday.

According to a statement from the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, the initiative is about more than just renovating buildings. It seeks to restore confidence in public health facilities by providing modern equipment, qualified personnel, and adequate drugs.

Governor Ododo stressed his commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to efficient and affordable healthcare, regardless of their location.

The Governor also acknowledged the leadership of President Bola Tinubu in the health sector, noting that the President’s focus on primary healthcare and human capital development was a strong motivation for Kogi State’s ongoing health sector reforms.

The revitalisation project, which began earlier this year, covers over 200 PHCs across the state, with the first 80 facilities now ready for public use in areas including Lokoja, Okene, Idah, and Kabba.
