ABUJA, Nigeria—Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, is set to lead the country’s delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in New York, which begins on September 23, 2025.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the Vice President’s role in a statement, noting that he will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and other senior officials.
The theme for this year’s UNGA, “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights,” will guide Nigeria’s participation. The country’s priorities at the summit include fostering economic growth, promoting international peace, and tackling issues such as climate change and humanitarian crises.
Vice President Shettima is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 24, where he is expected to deliver a national statement on Nigeria’s commitment to global cooperation, regional security, and climate action. The delegation will also participate in several high-level side events, including discussions on the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine, energy opportunities in the Gulf of Guinea, and Africa’s digital transformation.
