Parts of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, will experience a temporary power outage on Saturday due to scheduled maintenance work at a major transmission station.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that its engineers will carry out routine maintenance on a 60MVA power transformer and associated switchgear equipment at the Katampe 132/33kV transmission substation.
The six-hour exercise is scheduled to take place between 10:00 and 16:00 local time on Saturday, 17 October 2026.
As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take bulk power to supply residential and commercial customers in affected neighborhoods during the operational window.
Affected areas
The temporary supply disruption will affect consumers in:
- Katampe Main
- Katampe Extension
- Jahi and surrounding areas
In a statement released on Saturday, TCN management apologized for the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses, confirming that normal power distribution is expected to resume once the technical work is completed.
