Nigeria’s envoy to Spain urges economic collaboration on 66th Independence Anniversary

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Okezie Ikpeazu, has called for deeper economic ties, increased foreign investment, and stronger bilateral trade as the nation marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Speaking at a commemorative ceremony in Madrid, Spain, on Thursday, 1 October 2026, Ambassador Ikpeazu addressed Nigerian citizens, diplomats, and international partners, reflecting on the country’s democratic trajectory and economic reforms since gaining independence in 1960.

The envoy highlighted expanding commercial and industrial cooperation between Abuja and Madrid, pointing to investments by Spanish multinational firms in Nigeria as evidence of growing market confidence. He noted that future bilateral partnerships will focus on renewable energy, agricultural technology, digital infrastructure, and the creative sector.
