Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 25-year-old Portugal-based businessman at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu after he ingested 72 wraps of cocaine in an attempt to traffic them to Europe.
The suspect, identified as Lovely Chukwulobelu, was intercepted on Thursday, 25 September 2026, in the departure hall while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Portugal via Addis Ababa.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Chukwulobelu admitted during interrogation that he resorted to drug trafficking to offset heavy debts incurred during his wedding, which took place in Nigeria on 13 September 2026.
The suspect, who wore his wedding ring at the time of his arrest, was placed under medical excretion observation, where he egested the illicit Class A drugs.
In a statement released on Sunday, the anti-narcotics agency also detailed several other major seizures made during coordinated nationwide operations:
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Marwa commended officers across the affected commands for the successful interdiction operations, reiterating the agency’s commitment to dismantling international drug trafficking networks.
