Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a mass abduction attempt in Zamfara State, rescuing nine civilians—including an infant—following an ambush by armed terrorists.
The operation occurred in Unguwar Rogo village, located within the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, after security forces responded to a distress call on August 16, 2026.
Incident Background and Military Response
According to military sources, the attack was led by a suspected terrorist kingpin identified as Mallam Shuaibu. The assault was reportedly launched in retaliation for the recent arrest of key logistics collaborators who were attempting to procure motorcycles and fuel for the group.

Key details of the engagement include:
- Ambush Dynamics: The armed group laid an ambush in a millet farm along the main transit route, targeting civilian vehicles and forcing several off the road into surrounding bushes to execute a mass kidnapping.
- Tactical Intervention: Approaching troops engaged the assailants, frustrating the abduction plot and forcing the group to retreat into nearby forest cover.
- Victim Rescue & Medical Care: Nine individuals were safely extracted from the scene. Two female victims who sustained gunshot injuries during the initial ambush were transferred to a medical facility for treatment.
Military personnel have maintained a presence in the general area to track the fleeing fighters, disrupt logistics networks, and secure transit corridors across the local government area.
