The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled an international drug trafficking syndicate operating across South America, Nigeria, Europe, and Asia, seizing 184.50 kg of cocaine valued at N39 billion (£21.2m).
Announcing the operation in Lagos on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), revealed that the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator—a social media influencer known as “KC Luxury”—was arrested as he attempted to flee the country.
Operation Overview and High-Profile Arrests
The crackdown began following the interception of 184.50 kg of cocaine concealed within a commercial courier logistics channel in Lagos, marking the largest single narcotics seizure within a courier firm in the agency’s history.
Key details of the investigation and subsequent arrests include:
- Fleeing Syndicate Head Detained: Afolabi Kazeem Michael (alias “KC Luxury”), who presented himself publicly as a luxury goods and jewellery dealer, was apprehended on the night of 13 August 2026 at the boarding gate of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board a business-class flight to Paris.
- Seized Assets: Operatives recovered €7,750, £2,800, and N100,000 in cash, along with luxury jewellery from Afolabi at the airport, while a subsequent search of his Banana Island residence led to the impounding of several exotic vehicles.
- Logistics Facilitator Nabbed: Lawal Mujab Kehinde, an employee of the courier firm used for routing shipments to the UK, Europe, and Asia, was arrested for directly packaging and processing illicit consignments for cash payments.
- Transnational Operations: British law enforcement agencies executed coordinated, near-simultaneous arrests of the syndicate’s UK-based contacts.
Strategic Shift to Courier Channels
Brig. Gen. Marwa noted that international trafficking networks are increasingly attempting to bypass intensified security at seaports and airports by targeting private courier and logistics services.
He affirmed that the NDLEA’s Special Investigation Team will continue to collaborate with international law enforcement partners to dismantle cross-border drug pipelines, dark web syndicates, and clandestine manufacturing labs nationwide.
