Military Launches Major Offensive Against Armed Groups in North-West Nigeria

Nigeria’s military task force in the north-west, Operation Fansan Yamma, has launched a fresh offensive aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and preventing the spread of armed groups across the region.

Code-named Operation Clean Sweep IV, the joint ground and air campaign targets militant strongholds across several north-western states to disrupt logistics corridors and deny armed groups operational footholds.

Initial clearance operations conducted on Wednesday in Katsina State forced suspected militants to abandon enclaves in the Dutsinma Local Government Area. In neighbouring Zamfara State, air strikes targeted a group of armed fighters on motorcycles in Anka Local Government Area, neutralizing several combatants.

Military authorities stated that a key objective of the campaign is to contain the spread of the Lakurawa militant group along border areas, as well as clearing criminal networks operating near the River Niger axis and Kainji Lake National Park.
