Nigeria’s Zenith Bank investigates customer data breach after global cyberattack

Nigeria’s Zenith Bank has confirmed it is investigating a cybersecurity breach involving unauthorized access to limited customer information, including email addresses and phone numbers.

The commercial lender stated that the incident was linked to a broader, global cyberattack targeting multiple international organizations across various sectors.

In a statement sent to clients, the bank said it had activated its incident response protocols and remediation measures immediately upon detecting the intrusion.

Core systems remain secure

Zenith Bank assured customers that its core banking infrastructure and digital services remain safe, operational, and uncompromised.

“Our banking services and digital channels remain secure and fully operational,” the bank said, while advising account holders to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts.

Customers have been urged to monitor incoming emails, text messages, and phone calls, and reminded never to share sensitive security credentials—such as passwords, PINs, or One-Time Passwords (OTPs)—with third parties.

The financial institution added that it is actively taking steps to safeguard customer data and has directed further inquiries to its direct customer support channels.
