Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State have arrested a 36-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Ilorin.
The suspect, identified as AbdulGaniyu AbdulRahman, was apprehended by the command’s Gender Unit following a complaint filed by the victim’s father.
According to NSCDC Public Relations Officer Ayoola Shola, the suspect became acquainted with the teenager through his business outlet at Alfa Yahaya in the Adeta area of Ilorin.
Investigators revealed that AbdulRahman allegedly lured the victim to his shop on several occasions before taking her to an uncompleted building, where the assaults took place. He reportedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse.
The victim also told investigators that during one incident, the suspect forced her to consume a locally prepared herbal mixture that left her weak and disoriented. A subsequent medical examination confirmed physical evidence of sexual abuse.
Kwara State NSCDC Commandant Abbas Mohammed condemned the act, emphasizing that offences involving minors will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. He urged parents to stay vigilant and maintain open communication with their children to spot early signs of abuse.
The command added that the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
