The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched a manhunt for suspected vandals after recovering 212 metres of stolen streetlight cables worth over ₦1.8m in Jigawa State.
The recovery followed a tip-off from the Chairman of Hadejia Local Government Area, Yaro Abba, who spotted suspicious electrical cables at an NSCDC checkpoint in neighbouring Kano State.
A joint investigation between the Jigawa and Kano commands confirmed that the cables, valued at ₦1.84m, had been vandalised and stripped from public streetlights across Hadejia.
The Kano command officially handed over the recovered items to the Jigawa command on 28 July for further investigation.
Praising the local government chairman for his vigilance, Jigawa State NSCDC Commandant Muhammad Ingawa warned that those behind the economic sabotage would be tracked down and prosecuted.
