The Democratic Front (TDF) has stated that recent bribery allegations made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo against his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar, raise serious questions about the opposition leader’s integrity.
Obasanjo recently alleged that Atiku offered a ₦5m bribe to the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, in a plot to secure his impeachment.
In a joint statement issued by Chairman Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary Wale Adedayo, TDF claimed the accusations further damage Atiku’s democratic credentials ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
“Although the former House of Representatives Speaker Ghali Na’Abba is not alive to provide further clarity… the fact that it was made by a former President against his own former deputy calls for serious concern,” the group said.
TDF pointed to previous corruption allegations made in Obasanjo’s memoir My Watch, arguing that Atiku’s failure to challenge the claims in court leaves a persistent stain on his public service record.
The group urged Nigerian voters to view Obasanjo’s comments as a warning sign against supporting Atiku’s political ambitions in upcoming elections.
