The Federal Government has pledged to transform the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) into a premier institution for specialized military and civilian training.
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, made the commitment while hosting the university’s governing council at the ministry headquarters in Abuja.
Gen. Musa assured the delegation of sustained strategic support, describing the university as critical to equipping personnel with the technical skills needed to confront modern security threats.
To address skill gaps across the security sector, the ministry announced plans to collaborate with the Armed Forces to fully utilize the 30% admission quota allocated to military personnel.
“As the Federal Government pushes for a highly skilled workforce in this digital era, we must encourage members of the Armed Forces, ministry staff, and the general public to leverage the cutting-edge technological and academic solutions available at NAUB,” Gen. Musa said.
A key outcome of the meeting was a joint agreement to tackle campus infrastructure challenges, including plans to build a Centre for Military Performance Management—which officials say will be the first of its kind in Africa.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the pioneer Pro-Chancellor of NAUB and former Army Chief, retired Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, praised the minister’s leadership and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and national service.
