Chelsea have agreed a deal with Crystal Palace to sign defender Maxence Lacroix as they look to bolster their backline.
The two Premier League clubs have concluded negotiations for the 26-year-old centre-back, with personal terms not expected to pose an issue.
Lacroix is set to undergo a medical before finalizing his transition to Stamford Bridge, where he is expected to sign a long-term contract running until 2032.
The Frenchman’s move comes after two impressive seasons at Selhurst Park, where he established himself as one of the top flight’s most reliable central defenders.
He played a pivotal role under Oliver Glasner, helping Palace secure the UEFA Conference League title alongside strong domestic campaigns.
Lacroix joined the Eagles from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in August 2024 and quickly established himself as a mainstay in the squad, with his club performances earning him a place in France’s 2026 World Cup squad.
Chelsea pushed to secure the 6ft 4in defender due to his physical presence, aerial dominance, strength in duels, and recovery speed. During the 2025-26 Premier League season, he was the only player in the division to register at least 50 tackles, 200 duels won, and 250 clearances.
His tactical versatility—being comfortable in both a back three and a back four—is seen as a major asset for manager Xabi Alonso as Chelsea continue their squad overhaul.
Negotiations were handled directly at the ownership level between the two London clubs, with the Blues now closing in on completing the transfer.
