ABUJA — The Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) has elected a new executive committee to lead the organisation for the next two years following a transparent and undisputed electoral process.
Sunday Odita has been elected as the new president of the association. Joining him on the executive committee are Linus Aleke as vice president, Musa Umar Bologi as secretary, and Benjamin Samson as treasurer.
Other newly elected officials include Martha Ebere (Assistant Secretary), Kikelomo Okere (Financial Secretary), Ihotu Odoh (Welfare Officer), Agbor James (Provost), and Mathew Abi (Public Relations Officer).
In his inaugural remarks following the election, Mr. Odita stated that member welfare would be the primary focus of his administration, noting that professional empowerment is vital for effective defence journalism.
The new leadership pledged to strengthen partnerships with key institutions across Nigeria’s defence, security, and intelligence sectors to promote accurate reportage and enhance public trust.
Mr. Odita also praised the resilience of Nigerian troops operating across various theatres, paying tribute to the strategic leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, alongside the service chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The committee reaffirmed DECAN’s commitment to serving as a credible media bridge between the military, security agencies, and the Nigerian public to support national stability and development.
