White House Slams Nobel Committee After Peace Prize Snub

Washington, D.C. — The White House has strongly criticised the Norwegian Nobel Committee for awarding the Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, claiming the committee prioritised politics over peace by overlooking US President Donald Trump.

The reaction came swiftly from the President’s camp after the announcement in Oslo. White House Director of Communications, Steven Cheung, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the Nobel Committee had “proved they place politics over peace.”

“President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives,” Cheung wrote. “He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.”

Mr. Trump has repeatedly asserted since returning to the White House in January that he is deserving of the prize for his efforts in global conflict resolution. On the eve of the announcement, he publicly restated his claim, saying his brokering of the first phase of a ceasefire in Gaza this week marked the eighth war he had ended. He nonetheless added that he did not pursue the actions for the award, but “because I’ve saved a lot of lives.”

The President’s persistent claim is viewed by some observers as broadly exaggerated. Meanwhile, Nobel Prize experts in Oslo had insisted in the days leading up to Friday’s decision that Mr. Trump had little chance of winning, noting that his “America First” policies run counter to the internationalist ideals established in Alfred Nobel’s 1895 will creating the award.
