Abuja, Nigeria – Nigerian youth leaders are calling on young people to register to vote, describing it as the only legitimate way for them to have a say in who governs them. This comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that over 1.3 million Nigerians have registered since the resumption of the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise.
Of the total number of new registrants, young people account for more than 860,000, or nearly 63%. At a press conference in Abuja, youth leader Isah Babangida from Kogi State urged young Nigerians to recognise that “power is not served on a platter” and encouraged them to participate in the electoral process.

Babangida, an aspirant for the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Presidency, has unveiled his national campaign team in Abuja. He praised several political figures for their support of youth development, including Seyi Tinubu, Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande, and Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.
He outlined his vision for the NYCN Presidency, pledging to ensure government programs focus on sustainable productivity and job creation for youths. Babangida also vowed to push for increased youth representation in government and to investigate and account for any mismanagement of youth-focused funds. He called on young people to channel their intellect and creativity toward national growth and development.
