Nigeria Warns Against Deadly Migration Routes After Libya Video Emerges

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has reacted to a viral video showing Nigerians stranded in Libya, calling for help to be evacuated.

The commission says it is investigating the video, but notes that over 10,000 Nigerians were previously evacuated from Libya a few years ago. This was stated by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit at NIDCOM.

Despite warnings from NIDCOM’s head, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, many Nigerians continue to travel to Libya, only to find themselves stranded again.

In recent months, nearly 4,000 Nigerians have been brought back from Libya with the help of the International Organisation for Migration.

NIDCOM has alerted the National Security Adviser and the International Organisation for Migration to the latest video and is urging Nigerians to avoid deadly migration routes.

The commission is also calling for traffickers who exploit migrants to be arrested, named, and shamed.
