Nigerian Anti-Graft Agency Rejects Claims of Political Bias

Abuja, Nigeria – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has rejected accusations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that its investigations are politically motivated. The ADC had claimed that the EFCC was targeting opposition figures to intimidate them.

In a press statement, the EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, said, “If I am not condemned for investigating both former and serving strong ruling party Governors and Ministers, I should not be condemned for also investigating opposition figures.”

The EFCC described the ADC’s claims as “self-serving” and “unwarranted,” stating that there are no time limits on criminal investigations. The agency noted that it is currently investigating key figures from both the ruling party and the opposition, including several serving state governors.

The statement concluded that the EFCC would continue to perform its duties without “partisan consideration” and urged Nigerians to ignore what it called “political statements meant to heat up the polity.”
